Back in the present, we talk about the Whovian Running Club with organizer Brian Biggs, and we discuss the Doctor Who Society of Canada‘s work raising money for children’s hospitals in Canada at conventions with Cindy Peters. In just three days, we will be releasing 13 commentaries of 10 episodes of the 1969 Patrick Troughton story The War Games. Over 40 Doctor Who writers, artists, showrunners, podcasters and fans are participating in this project including Classic series producer Philip Hinchcliffe and recent executive producer and writer Steven Moffat.

#WhoAgainstGuns is pleased to announce another bonus commentary to add to the 12 we’ve already announced! Legendary producer of Doctor Who from 1974-1977, Philip Hinchcliffe will take part in a bonus commentary of episode 1 of The War Games!

Hinchcliffe was producer of Doctor Who during the first three years of Tom Baker’s tenure as the Doctor (seasons 12-14 of the classic series), where he presided over many all-time classics including The Ark In Space, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars, The Seeds of Doom and The Deadly Assassin just to name a few. Last Friday, March 2, around noon eastern time, we issued a challenge: if we doubled the money raised thus far for the #WhoAgainstGuns initiative and raised $7000, former showrunner of Doctor Who, acclaimed writer and co-creator of Sherlock Steven Moffat would take part in a commentary of The War Games episode 10.

It took a little more than than two days to not only achieve that goal, but to exceed it a little. We have raised almost $7500 for organizations dedicated to stopping gun violence. The commentary with Steven Moffat is on!

As a result of this achievement, Steven Moffat has sent Doctor Who fans this message:

“I’m thrilled to hear we’ve hit the target. Of course I’ll take part. I even have OPINIONS about episode 10 of The War Games (well, of course I do!) But don’t stop. Will keep talking for another five minutes for every five hundred more!”

We have a challenge to Doctor Who fans. If we double the money already raised – and raise $7000 for March For Our Lives, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Moms Demand Action in the US (and other organizations internationally) by the time our commentaries drop on March 12  – our commentary podcasts will include a bonus commentary of The War Games episode 10 with Doctor Who writer and former showrunner Steven Moffat.

Gallifrey Stands, a coalition of Doctor Who fans and podcasters is proud to announce an all-star cast of over 40 Doctor Who podcasters, writers and fans are coming together to record a podcast commentary of a 1969 Classic Who story The War Games. The 11-episode podcast (of the ten episode story) will only be released to listeners who provide a donation to an organization committed to ending gun violence.

Doctor Who writers including Paul Cornell (Human Nature, Father’s Day), Jamie Mathieson (Oxygen, Flatline) Andrew Smith (Full Circle) and Peter Harness (The Zygon Invasion, Kill The Moon) will be joining comic artists Rachael Stott (Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor) and Simon Fraser (Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor) along with representatives of the popular Doctor Who podcasts Radio Free Skaro, Verity!, Reality Bomb, Coal Hill AV Club, Mutter’s Spiral, Gallifrey Public Radio, TARBIS, Web of Queer, Who and Company, bloggers and fans.
